Mr. Sanders is coming to SLE after 17 years at RTI Surgical as their Intellectual Property Director. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Minor in Mathematics, and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida. Mr. Sanders has managed patent and trademark prosecution/clearance, as well as created and developed IP policies.
Dr. Matt Bellefleur, who joined the firm as a Technical Specialist, recently became a Registered Patent Agent. Dr. Bellefleur received his B.S. from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. from the Arizona State University in Microbiology. His practice largely focuses on patent prosecution in the technology areas of microbiology, genetic engineering, molecular biology, neuroscience, environmental toxicology, and biotechnology.

Frank as a Shareholder of the firm.Mr. Frank, who has been with SLE since 2006, focuses his practice onpatent prosecution, patent procurement and enforcement strategy, patentability opinions, and freedom-to-operate and infringement opinions. Mr. Frank joins David Saliwanchik, Jeff Lloyd, Corey Cho, and Chris Eisenschenk as Shareholders of the Firm.
We are pleased to announce that on January 1, 2021, Mr. Justin Gao became a Partner of the firm. Mr. Gao earned a J.D. from North Carolina Central University and has completed Ph.D coursework in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. Mr. Gao practices before the U.S. Patent Office and is a Registered Patent Attorney. His practice focuses primarily on securing intellectual property protection for semiconductor devices; fabrication processes; analog, digital, and mixed signal electronics; and telecommunication technology.
In 2020, Saliwanchik, Lloyd & Eisenschenk obtained over 400 U.S. patents in a wide range of technologies, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical and industrial instruments, organic chemistry, electronics, software, optics, and materials science.
Mr. Jeff Lloyd has been reappointed to the Florida Bar’s Intellectual Property Certification Committee for a 2019-2022 3-year term. The IP Certification Committee establishes the standards of expertise for lawyers practicing intellectual property law. By drafting, administering, and evaluating the IP certification examination, the committee determines which lawyers can be certified as experts in IP law. Certified attorneys must demonstrate proficiency in all areas of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets law. Mr. Lloyd has previously served as the Committee’s Chairman for 2011-2012 and 2012-2013, as Vice Chair for 2010-2011, and was initially appointed to the inaugural committee upon its inception in 2006.
Mr. Parker was invited by the Electrical and Computing Engineering department at the University of Florida to provide a presentation to the students and faculty of the Design 2 class. Mr. Parkerprovided an overview of intellectual property, the process for seeking patent protection, and a discussion of the coverage provided by U.S. patent claims.
Mr. Ladwig was invited by the Department of Biomedical Sciences within Florida State University’s College of Medicine to speak to graduate students, post-doctoral associates, and faculty. Mr. Ladwig provided an overview of the types of intellectual property, the patent process, and the evolving state of U.S. patent law impacting the patent-eligibility of nature-based products and medical diagnostic innovations.
Mr. Ladwig served as a panelist on the panel session “It’s a Win-Win: Academia & Industry” at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center’s 12th Annual Business of Biotech Conference in Tampa. The panel discussed the opportunities and challenges in sponsored research collaborations between academia and industry, and was composed of experts in intellectual property law, licensing and negotiation, cancer imaging research, immunotherapy, drug discovery, and statistical and bioinformatics validation. The Business of Biotech Conference brings together biomedical companies, startups, entrepreneurs, service providers, and investors for networking, collaboration, and partnership discussions.
Gwendolyn L. Daniels, a Patent Agent with the firm, has obtained a Robotics Technician Certificate through George Brown College in Ontario Canada. The Robotics Technician Certificate program focuses on the robots and robotics systems used in manufacturing and research. Ms. Daniels has a B.S. degree in Biology from McNeese State University and has been a Registered Patent Agent since 2002.
